Bayou Region Business Institute

Nicholls College of Business Administration invites business professionals to attend its thirteenth annual Bayou Region Business Institute on Friday, October 20, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:20p.m. in the Ridley J. Gros Auditorium of Powell Hall.

Certified Public Accountants can earn up to eight Continuing Professional Education credit hours by attending the seminar.

Michael Chiasson, head of the department of accounting and finance, said, “All proceeds benefit the Nicholls Accounting program. The proceeds help support our AACSB accreditation efforts, student academic scholarships, student organizations, student travel to regional conferences, up-to-date technology for faculty, as well as other expenses of the accounting program.”

The seminar will include six guest speakers: Bryan Smith, a consulting manager with Pastlethwaite & Netterville; Wallace Jimson, a manager at Pastlethwaite & Nettleville’s Consulting Services Group; Julie Stokes, State Representative for Louisiana District 79; Michele Avery, the Forensic and Valuation Services Director for LaPorte CPAs & Business Advisors; Alfred E. Stacey, a director at Bourgeois Bennett; and Matthew Zagotti, a director of tax at Ryan in Baton Rouge.

Each speaker will discuss one of the five following topics relevant to their practice: Managing Risk with Technology, Louisiana Legislative Issues, Business Valuations, Federal Tax Update for Business, and Louisiana Sales Tax Overview and Hot Topics.

Chiasson said 20 people have signed up for the seminar and about 20 more are expected to. He also said that several accounting alumni have attended the seminar in the past although alumni are not the event’s main source of attendance. Registration includes breakfast and lunch fees and costs $265. Parking passes will not be required due to Nicholls fall break.
