Getting to Know: Homecoming Court pt. 2

With homecoming only two short weeks away, it is time once again to introduce
another five members of the homecoming court! This week, we are getting to know Megan
Labat, Peyton Chiasson, Jamie Landry, Mason Ducote and Sydney Richardelle. Once again, the
entire homecoming court consists of Taylor Boudreaux, Dustin Bergeron, Lauren Constant,
Cameron Bourgeois, Megan Labat, Peyton Chiasson, Jamie Landry, Mason Ducote, Sydney
Richardelle, Danial Frias, Aubrey Simmons, Conner Pate, Hailee Thomas and Zachary Poche.

Megan Labat is a senior from New Orleans, LA majoring in Family and Consumer
Sciences. She is a very dedicated member of Nicholls community, helping to shape the campus
as much as she says it has shaped her. She said, “Who I was four years ago was not who I
wanted to be, and for Nicholls to take me in and create someone I can be proud of becoming
has been an amazing experience.” She is very involved on campus as well. Megan is actively
involved in Delta Zeta Sorority, Student Programming Association, Order of Omega and Phi
Alpha Theta. She is also a Resident Assistant. Megan said “I am humbled to be selected for
homecoming court. This is my chance to stand in front of every teacher, mentor and friend that
I have gained through my college experience and say thank you for seeing things in me that I
couldn't see.”

Peyton Chiasson is senior from Thibodaux, LA. He is majoring in Business Management
with a concentration in Human Resources. Peyton is a very helpful and friendly individual. He is
involved in countless organizations. One of these is Student Government Association, which is
one of the major things that he believes molded him into the model student he is now. He is
also involved in Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, serving as the treasurer in his chapter as well as
regional president. Peyton is involved in seven different committees on campus, holding a
position as a chairman on two of those seven. He said that the best thing about Nicholls is,
“there is no other university where you can walk around campus and see so many people that
you know – both students and faculty. I think the relationships you make here will outlast
relationships that you could have made elsewhere. Our culture here is phenomenal, and all of
this will help a lot in your future careers.”

Jamie Landry is a junior from Luling, LA. She is majoring in Secondary English Education.
Jamie is exceptionally proud to get the opportunity to represent Nicholls on homecoming court.
“I’m so honored to be on court! Everyone I was competing against was so deserving – I almost
didn’t even finish the application process since I’m a junior. I wound up just going through with
it, and when I made it to the interview portion, I just did it thinking it would be a good practice
for future interviews. I never thought I’d actually make it!” She said that she was always told in
the past as a younger member of organizations to “wait your turn” to make an impact in the
organization or on campus, and she rejected that and made a place for herself. Jamie is
involved in Delta Zeta Sorority, NEAT, Colonel Catholics, and as entertainment chairperson in
Student Programming Association. She has certainly made her mark on Nicholls, and can’t wait
to represent the university she loves so much!

Mason Ducote is a senior from Avondale, LA majoring in Nursing. His favorite thing
about Nicholls is the friendly community and small-town feeling around campus. He is involved
in Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Nicholls Association of Student Nurses, and he works in
campus housing. He also enjoys playing intramural sports! Mason said that “For me, being
chosen to be on court means that everyone else that helped me get to where I am was
successful. I couldn’t have done this alone. I just want to make sure I give them that
recognition, because I’m very thankful for that.”

Lastly, Sydney Richardelle is a senior from Erath, LA. She is majoring in Birth to 5
Education. She has a very strong connection with Nicholls, from the hard work she has put in
personally to her family legacy left there. Sydney holds her position on court close to her heart,
since thirty years ago, her father proposed to her mother on the scoreboard at their
homecoming game. Of course, this isn’t the only reason she feels honored to have been chosen
to serve on court. Sydney is extremely committed to Nicholls, as she is a member of Student
Government Association serving as Supreme Court Chief Justice, Delta Zeta philanthropy
extension chair as well as 1902 national loyalty society chair, SEALS president, couture cares
treasurer, campus dining association PR, Colonel Catholics, NEAT and more. When asked about
her favorite thing about Nicholls, Sydney said, “I feel like we have opportunities to be
individuals. We’re not just a number. Professors and other students have the opportunity at
Nicholls to take a direct interest in each other.” She is very thankful for the opportunity to
represent Nicholls and the recognition for all the love and pride she has for her university.
