Video Game Review: Destiny 2

September 13, 2017

With the release of Destiny 2, gamers were able to fulfil their craving for more
guardian action from what they were left with after they finished Destiny 1. If you are
new to the Destiny franchise, a world of futuristic wonder awaits with awesome techy
guns and powers that will make your enemies tremble. As for those who played the first
Destiny, you knew what to expect out of Destiny 2 in terms of gameplay and the
background of the storyline. As for me, I had a good grasp on the background and I was
pretty good at the gameplay. However, when I began my journey, it seems a new
destiny awaited me, and one that I never could have expected or predicted.

When I started up my PS4, I was excited and had butterflies in my stomach. I
could not wait to see what was in store for me. When I started the game, I was stunned
by even more detailed graphics, cleaner loading and menu screens, improved
movement and better weapon displays that were of even higher quality than the first
game. The storyline started with an immediate ‘bang’ that would be emotional to anyone
who played the first game. In this case I would recommend playing the first game before
the second of course.

The gameplay was a great quality of the game. It was a user friendly system that
did not involve a complex menu, map or on-screen displays (also known as HUD). The
character was easy to move around, and the controls fit right with what each button
usually does for most first person shooter games. When playing, I felt right at ease with
the controls with each subclass for the Titan class that my character is. For new players,
you will warm up quickly to the controls and be just as good as the veterans in no time.

The menu is easy to navigate with tabs that separate your worn gear, inventory and
settings screens. It is only a bit different from the first game but not at all
unrecognizable. For gameplay, this game did a fantastic job.

The writing, dialogue, and animation for each character and situation was the
best aspect of this game in my opinion. You could feel the emotion of the characters as
if you yourself were in the shoes of your character. The story is inspiring, purposeful,
packed with emotion and definitely one everyone could enjoy like a movie. From the
funny moments to the serious and even sad moments, you can feel every bit. The funny
moments were especially well done with original witty dialogue. As for the storyline, it is
definitely a winner. From start to finish, this game does a superb job telling its story as
well as reaching a relevant and fitting conclusion. For the writing, this game did a
perfect job.

When it comes to visuals, one word comes to mind: stellar. This out of this world
game shows amazing believable landscapes as well as stunning and breathtaking
views of the sky on each planet you can visit. I highly suggest taking a moment to view
the landscape around you on each planet as well as the sky above you, all 360º of it. I
am so glad the developers put such time and effort into creating a beautiful space to
play their great game in.

The audio just added another touch to the game. The music is not redundant nor
does it feel out of place with the scenes it plays in. The music is well chosen for each
situation, and the sound effects are just right and definitely not over the top as some
games can do. Audio quality is definitely a win.

Destiny 2 is one of the best games I have ever played and I would highly
recommend playing both Destiny 1 and 2. I definitely would play it a second time
probably as a different class. Destiny franchise fans, keep your eyes out for a potential
Destiny 3 on the horizon, the after credit scene alluded to that possibility. So whether
you are a Hunter, Warlock or Titan, we will all follow our destiny!
