Colonels volleyball fall in Sugar Bowl Classic

The Nicholls State University volleyball team suffered three straight defeats this past weekend in
the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Volleyball Classic at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Delvin
Fieldhouse in New Orleans.
Nicholls competed against Oklahoma on Friday and lost in three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-19
and 25-20.
On Saturday, the team faced Tulane and lost in three sets with scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-17.
They concluded the tournament with a rematch against Southern Mississippi. The Colonels were
unable to gain redemption against the Golden Eagles as Southern Mississippi prevailed in three
sets with scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-18.
Nicholls (1-8) currently has a winless road record of (0-3) and a (1-5) record at neutral sites.
They sit tied for the bottom of the Southland Conference standings with Southeastern (1-8).
Their one victory so far this season was against Mississippi Valley State University on Sept. 2 at
the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic in Lafayette.
The Colonels look to turn their season in the right direction this Tuesday night when they return
home to David R. Stopher Gymnasium for their first home game of the season and face
Mississippi Valley State once more. The match time is for 6:30 p.m.
