Top three haunted houses to visit in Louisiana

October 27, 2016

With the rich history that lies within the state, many Louisianans consider Halloween to be the best time for exploring haunted houses, spooky swamps, voodoo rituals and other cultural aspects unique to the area.

The haunted houses in South Louisiana make it easy to get your fill of Halloween thrills and are considered to be some of the best in the country. Here are the top haunted houses in Louisiana that you should check out this fall:

The Thirteenth Gate
The Thirteenth Gate has been recognized as one of the top haunted attractions in the country by USA Today, MTV, E! Online, and Yahoo Travel. Located in Baton Rouge, The Thirteenth gate contains 13 different realms for guests to wander through in horror. What makes this haunted house stand out is a combination of great detail and effects in their presentation along with actors and special effects makeup that can only be compared to Hollywood. The 40,000 square foot haunted house features underground tunnels and a rickety bridge overlooking hundreds of live snakes and is not recommended for the faint of heart!

The Mortuary

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, The Mortuary is the #1 haunted house in New Orleans. The Mortuary is centered around the legend of the twisted mortician Dr. Ravencroft who, over a century ago, experimented with dead bodies in the embalming process. The legend says that he needs an endless supply of blood to continue his experiments and keep himself alive. Although the house is themed around Dr. Ravencroft and the horrors he committed, what keeps this haunted house interesting each year are the new effects, sets, and scares that it comes up with each year. Besides experiencing snakes, bats, rats, roaches, spiders, and other creatures, there is a disclaimer to guests that they might also experience a real ghost, considering The Mortuary is verified as being a real haunted house by ghost hunters around the globe.

Evil Visions

Since its grand opening in 2011, Evil Visions Haunted House has been northern Louisiana’s premier haunted house destination. Located in downtown Monroe, this is one of the only top rated haunted houses in the area. Besides providing the haunt within its house, this year Evil Visions will provide other entertainment for guests such as Monroe’s first zombie lazer battle on November 5th, and a Halloween block party featuring live music.

Whatever frights and haunts you seek this Halloween season, Louisiana is home to many haunted houses that can provide the ultimate to scare to any group of people.
