Five shows students should watch this fall

October 7, 2016

The fall season is a beautiful time of the year; the weather gets cooler, the drinks get warmer and TV gets better. When trying to choose a show to watch the possibilities are endless, so here are five shows you should watch this fall.

If you’re into thrillers

Quantico is the show for you. The show focuses on the FBI’s efforts in preventing and finding the people behind terrorist attacks. Quantico’s first season revolves around Alex Parrish, played by Priyanka Chopra, and her fellow FBI recruits. Soon after they completed their training at Quantico, Parrish is framed for a terrorist attack. Throughout every episode, there are multiple time jumps that connect the series of events to people and events from the past.

If you binge-watch season one, like I did, you’ll be able to catch up to season 2 in no time. Quantico airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. on ABC.

If you’re into supernatural fiction

Stranger Things is the show for you. In this Netflix original show, the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, becomes terrorized by an unknown force. A young boy goes missing and a girl with unusual powers is on the run from armed agents. The laboratory in town seems to be the powerhouse of all the chaos. The town police, the boy’s mother and his friends race against the clock to find him. Will it be too late?

Season one is available on Netflix. The premiere for season two is yet to be announced.

If you’re into comedic-dramas

Jane the Virgin is the show for you. This show follows Jane, an aspiring writer, through her ups and downs of an unexpected pregnancy. This isn’t your common “unexpected” pregnancy; she was accidently artificially inseminated during her visit to the doctor. From the baby daddy drama and a mysterious villain on the loose, Jane can’t seem to catch a break. Jane the Virgin parodies techniques and storylines used by telenovelas, Latin soap operas.

Season three of Jane the Virgin is set to premiere on October 17 at 8 p.m. on The CW.

If you’re into dark comedy

Scream Queens is the show for you. Season one takes place at Wallace University and follows the murders of people directly and indirectly involved with Kappa Kappa Tau, a popular sorority on campus. This show uses dark comedy to add comedic effect to murders and exaggerates the lives of those in Greek life. Everyone seems to have a motive to be the killer.

You can watch season two on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on FOX.

If you’re into satires

Saturday Night Live is the show for you. SNL is a live, sketch comedy that satirizes news, politics, entertainment and everyday life. Every week, there’s a different celebrity and musical guest who are actively involved in the show’s skits. This show has been around since 1975 and continues to create laughter every Saturday night on NBC. Although the show’s substance is for comedic purposes, most of the jokes are created from real events and occurrences.

You can watch SNL on Saturdays at 10:30 p.m. on NBC.
