Three Nicholls seniors started a band, “Caro & Company,” earlier in the year and have had their schedules booked with local performances ever since.

Friends since eighth grade at E.D. White Catholic High School, Caroline Robichaux, the lead vocalist, Quentin Landry, guitarist and vocalist, and Tate Aucoin, who plays the Kajon, have always talked about potentially having their own band. They were finally able to make it a reality when Landry, majoring in Management, transferred to Nicholls from Louisiana State University last spring.

Robichaux, an Allied Health senior, said, “Tate and Quentin asked me what I thought about starting a band at the end of last year and I couldn’t have been more excited. We started a group message about songs we would potentially play. Then in January, we had our first actual practice and continued to practice throughout the entire spring semester.”

Caro & Company’s first time in the spotlight was for a family oriented private event in late March. After four hours of such a fun and successful performance, the band was determined to add to their playlist of thirty songs and plan events throughout Thibodaux.

They spoke with managers of many local restaurants and found themselves surprised at how willing the venues were in letting them play their music. They excitedly accepted their first public gig at El Paso Mexican Grill, but Landry explained that they were missing an imperative part of their band- its name.

“We needed a band name ASAP for our first gig, so we decided the name, Caro & Company, kind of on a whim,” Robichaux said. “But our name fits us so well now because our friends that come to support us regularly are starting to call themselves the company.”

The band soon developed an assortment of popular genres of music including Country, Classic Rock, Rap, Oldies, etc. Now having about 150 songs to choose from, Aucoin, an Allied Health major in Athletic Training, explained that they pick their music depending on the vibes of the crowd.

Dillon Pierce, majoring in Petroleum Engineering Technology and Safety Management, said, “Caro & Company always creates such a happy atmosphere for families and friends within the Thibodaux community to reconnect with one another and have a good time.”

With Nicholls Homecoming week approaching, Caro & Company excitedly anticipate being the opening band for “Souled Out” at the “Alive at 5” event held on October 6.

On October 15, the band will again hit the big stage at the “Acadia Music Festival” which will benefit Upside Downs Nonprofit Organization.

These two events will be the largest crowds the band has ever performed for, so they are eager to see how their audience will react.

Caro & Company hope to soon exceed the borders of Thibodaux and travel to different areas.

“We really want to have an event in Baton Rouge or something just to see how other people, who haven’t heard us or knows us, would react,” Landry said. “The rest of this year is pretty busy for us, so hopefully sometime in 2017 we will be able to.”

Robichaux said that she hopes to incorporate her piano skills in their music.

“It would definitely take some adjustment, but we’ve definitely been thinking about incorporating the keyboard,” Robichaux said. “Adding a new instrument would be a slow process, but it would expand our horizons as for as playing bigger gigs.”

Although graduating and going their separate ways in the near future, the band hopes to remain close enough to perform on occasion.

Robichaux often promotes Caro & Company by posting upcoming events, pictures and videos to the band’s Facebook page.
