Students should take advantage of the perks fall has to offer

September 22, 2016

This year, fall begins Sept. 22 and ends Dec. 20. Although many adore summer because it provides them with time off from school, others welcome fall with open arms. It doesn’t matter if fall isn’t your favorite season, because there’s something for everyone to look forward to.

Buh-bye heat and humidity

We’ve spent all summer dreading the idea of walking outside, because we’d end up drenched in sweat even before we reached our destination. Fear no more, because a drop in temperature and humidity can’t be too far behind. You’ll have the chance to enjoy your time outside without breaking a sweat.
No one likes humidity. It makes your feel extremely hot, icky and sweaty in places you didn’t know you could sweat. Aside from that, humidity gives your hair a mind of its own. As soon as fall weather starts kicking in, you won’t have to worry about the frizz in your hair.

Cozy and stylish clothing

It might be that the fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris influence the new styles showcased in the fall or that the cooler weather makes it comfortable to wear layers of clothing, but you’ll see the most stylish and comfortable clothing in the fall.
Ditch the flip-flops and bring out the boots. Be prepared to see leggings and over-sized hoodies everywhere. Wear two layers of hoodies if you want. You won’t have to worry about burning up as soon as you step outside. Comfort and stylish is the goal.

Holidays and celebrations

Before people even consider getting into the festive mood, they go all out for Halloween. It’s something about being able to dress up as someone else or eating loads of candy that makes the month of October a little bit mysterious and fun.
The greatest “present” a school can give to its students is a week off from school. Thanksgiving week allows students to take a break from school right before the semester ends. Better yet, you get to spend time with family and eat delicious food. Let’s not forget about the parades that accompany the holidays.

The warmth of indoors

As if people needed another reason to stay indoors. The cooler weather calls for hot beverages. Time to switch back to hot coffee instead of the iced coffee you spent all summer drinking. Not a fan of coffee? Fix yourself a cup of hot chocolate. If you’re not a fan of coffee or hot chocolate, go with hot tea.
There’s one thing for sure: plenty of people will be making their way to Starbucks to get their Pumpkin Spice Latte. It’s the IT drink of the fall, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you’re drinking as long as you’re in the warmth of your own home.

The change of scenery is comforting

As leaves begin to develop their reddish hues, the world around us seems to be filled with more color. Although the trees become bare, the fallen leaves decorate the ground we walk on. The crisp sound of leaves breaking is the soundtrack to fall.
Head outside and gather a group of friends. Make a campfire. The fire will keep you warm and you’ll be able to make s’mores. You won’t need any bug spray, because those devious critters aren’t around during the fall.

Football makes its way into your heart

Regardless of whether you’re a football fan or not, you can’t deny that watching a football game triggers your competitive side. Most Louisianans agree that fall is football season. You’ll find college students rooting for their school’s team and much of Louisiana ecstatic over a Saints’ win.
