Gay-Straight Alliance to host talent show in Peltier Auditorium

The Nicholls Gay-Straight Alliance will be hosting a talent show on Wednesday Nov. 19 in Peltier Auditorium from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This talent show will be the first of its kind for the GSA. Tre’Shaun Nuñez, the president of the Nicholls GSA and a sociology and business management junior from Morgan City, is very excited for the event.
“I can’t tell you what the show’s going to be like,” Nuñez said. “With a show like this, my goal is just to entertain everybody.”

In addition to several student acts, there will be a special guest performance.

“If you went to the recent drag show we had for Homecoming, one of the queens, Mary Jane Sparxx, is coming to perform again,” Nuñez said. “We loved her so much and did such a wonderful job that she’s coming again.”

Markos Picou, vice president of GSA and a government senior from Houma, is looking forward to singing in the show.

“I might crowd surf,” Picou said. “I’m going to do so well.”

GSA is not the only group performing in the show. Nicholls Color Guard, Residence Housing Association, Food Advisory Association, College Republicans and Nicholls International Community are just a few of the clubs that are scheduled to perform.

Tickets will be available for presale this week in the student union for $3, and will also be available at the door for $5.

Some of the proceeds from the show will be donated to the NO/AIDS Task Force, an agency that offers programs and services to people affected by HIV and AIDS in the New Orleans and Houma/Thibodaux areas.

“We’re doing it for a cause, because World AIDS Day is Dec. 1. We want to get awareness out now,” Nuñez said.
Nuñez said that they are working hard to get everything organized before show time.

“Right now, we’ve got to focus on getting everything together before show day,” Nuñez said. “I just hope it goes well.”

Nicholls GSA was founded in 2005, and there are currently around 20 members in the organization. It is open to all students and faculty of any sexual orientation.

“The Gay Straight Alliance is an equality organization on campus that stands for awareness, equality, support and culture,” Nuñez said.
