Students start rowing club at Nicholls

If you’re looking for a club to get into or just trying to get more involved at school, the Colonel Crew is definitely worth checking out.

The Colonel Crew is the official rowing club of Nicholls State University, and was founded at the beginning of the 2014 semester, making it one of the newest clubs on campus. It is affiliated with the Bayou Rowing Association, Thibodaux’s recreational rowing program. It is a growing program, just like the Colonel club that’s under it, and is always looking for new members.

If you don’t have any rowing experience, no worries. The Colonel Crew is open to all students no matter how much or how little rowing experience they might have.

“The club is open to anyone who would like to join. It’s a great opportunity to get some exercise and have some fun,” said Donna Pierce, Vice President of the Colonel Crew. “So far, we have roughly about 10 people in the club, so we’re definitely looking for more students to join.”

The club meets every Wednesday and Thursday at the dock off of Highway 301 near Labadieville, Louisiana. There aren’t many upcoming events other than recreational group rowing, but the Colonel Crew is trying to get a spot in the Regatta rowing competition next semester.

The coast of membership is $40 a month, which goes to the Bayou Rowing Association.
