SGA President hoping to boost student involvement in fall semester

Student Government Association President Adam LeFort plans to use events to raise student involvement during the fall semester.

The events LeFort is most excited about are the homecoming activities, especially the return of the homecoming bonfire for the first time since the early 2000’s. This event is will bring back an old Nicholls tradition that has been missed by alumni and will give families of students a great opportunity to experience the campus.

The other events that will happen around homecoming are the Nicholls Trunk or Treat on Halloween night and the homecoming itself. The theme this year is “Nightmare at Nicholls.”

On Nov. 15, Nicholls will compete against Northwestern State University in the NSU vs. NSU tailgate challenge. Students will have the opportunity to travel via bus to watch the Colonels take on the other NSU, the Northwestern State Demons. Students will get to participate in a joint tailgate with students from the other school that will include friendly games, food, and lots of fun.

LeFort is currently working on is the L’esplesprite spirit book for students.

“The L’esplesprite spirit book is something I hope to finish up some time in October. The book will contain 70 events for students to do such as going to Jazzman’s or take a picture with Colonel Tillou,” LeFort said.

The book also contains ranks you can achieve through doing the events in the book.

Doing 25 events will achieve you major while doing 35 events will achieve you the rank of captain. Once you do 50 events, you achieve the rank of colonel, which is the highest rank.

LeFort is also working on improving the Nicholls Awareness Campaign. The Nicholls Awareness Campaign was started two years ago and its primary focus is to promote and advertise Nicholls to the community.

“One big thing I’m trying to do with this program is get Nicholls banners to put on the lamp posts around town and the Thibodaux area,” LeFort said.

An old event returning in the fall semester will be the candidate meet and greet. This event will take place from Oct. 6 through Oct. 17 at the Plantation Suites. It will give students the opportunity to meet and talk with candidates from Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes and help them decide whom they want to vote for on Election Day.
